# Make a Packing Slip Without Prices

> The warehouse needs a packing slip with each order, but it shouldn't show prices. Can I make one from the invoice?

Yes. A packing slip is an invoice template that leaves out the prices. You make it once, and then generate it from any invoice.

## What you need

- Microsoft Word, to build the template.

## Steps

1. In Word, start a new document, or copy your invoice template and remove the prices from it.
2. Add the details the warehouse needs, such as:
    - `${INVOICE_NUMBER}` and `${SHIP_DATE}`
    - `${CUSTOMER_NAME}` and `${SHIPPING_ADDRESS}`
    - `${MEMO}` for any delivery instructions
3. Add a table for the items. Put the column names in the first row and these placeholders in the second:

    | Item | Description | SKU | Quantity |
    | ------------ | ------------------- | ----------- | ---------------- |
    | ${LINE_NAME} | ${LINE_DESCRIPTION} | ${LINE_SKU} | ${LINE_QUANTITY} |

The second row repeats once for each item on the invoice.

4. Leave out every price placeholder: `${LINE_RATE}`, `${LINE_AMOUNT}`, `${SUBTOTAL}`, `${TAX_AMOUNT}`, `${TOTAL_AMOUNT}` and `${BALANCE_DUE}`.
5. Save the file, then go to **Templates** and click **Upload Template**. Name it "Packing Slip" and save it.
6. Open any invoice, click **Generate Document**, and choose **Packing Slip**.

## Good to know

- Use the table row above, not `${LINE_ITEMS}`. `${LINE_ITEMS}` builds a whole table for you, prices included.
- A packing slip doesn't change anything in QuickBooks. It reads the same invoice your customer gets.
